Stan Meyer, did his invention cost him his life?

Stan Meyer was in the news in the mid 90’s with his water powered dune-buggy.  He drove from California to New York on 22 gallons of water.  The story is that Meyer was offered 1 billion dollars to shelf his invention, be he refused to sell, say that his invention was for the people. After Meyer returned from his famous trip across America running on water he passed away.  He was eating in a public restaurant where they say he stopped eating, jumped up, yelled “I’ve been Poisoned” and ran out into the parking lot where he fell to the ground dead.  The coroners report said the cause of death was an aneurysm of the brain.  Nobody knows for sure what happened, but within two weeks of his death the car was taken and his shop had been gone through.  If the car was a hoax, then why was it taken and not used to just prove a car cannot run on water. Stan Meyer had invented a way to introduce a DC pulse from the plates and produce HHO with less voltage and he also invented a replacement for the spark plug that separates the hydrogen from the water as it is injected into the engine and ignites it.
